1941 Eastern Front Campaign - Battle 9 - A Reconnaissance Mission

The German motorised reconnaissance platoon had noticed an unguarded bridge over the river.  As the German Engineering platoon was close by the two platoons went over the river to see what was over the bridge.

The rickety wooden bridge was strong enough for trucks.

Defending the road was Soviet MGA2 platoon.

The German motorised reconnaissance platoon heads over the bridge.

The German engineers come up in support.

The Soviets deploy their armoured car.

The German mororcyclists scatter, while the German M42 anti-tank gun deploys.

Soviet MGA2 prepare to defend the road.

German machinegun fire takes its toll as a truck burns.

The Germans begin to outflank the position.  The BA10 armoured car is immobilised and is a sitting duck for the German anti-tank gun and tank.

End game.  The Germans advance as the Soviets retreat, abandoning thier burning armoured car.  The Germans lost two motorbike combinations and so the reconnaissance platoon must retreat too.
