1941 Eastern Front Campaign - Battle 10 - A Reluctant Advance

Image
The Romanians finally got some reinforcements and, after some prodding by the Germans, advanced over the river to retrace their steps of unhappy memory.  Advancing less cautiously towards the river was Soviet Platoon 4.  A tiny platoon, it had been told to advance to the river and prevent the Romanians from crossing. The Romanian platoon is a shadow of its former self, but still quite strong in campaign terms.  The Tatra armoured car leads the advance. Soviet Platoon 4 was very weak and in no state for the fight coming. Confident in their numbers, the Romanians pressed the attack. The Soviets put up a determined resistance. The Romanian 47mm anti-tank gun had no targets. The Soviets start to retreat. The Soviets are melting away under the relentless pressure. In the end a few Soviets retreated north, confident the Romanians knew they had been in a fight.  The Romanians gained confidence and turned towards Gordinische once more.

1941 Eastern Front Campaign - Battle 9 - A Reconnaissance Mission

Image
The German motorised reconnaissance platoon had noticed an unguarded bridge over the river.  As the German Engineering platoon was close by the two platoons went over the river to see what was over the bridge. The rickety wooden bridge was strong enough for trucks. Defending the road was Soviet MGA2 platoon. The German motorised reconnaissance platoon heads over the bridge. The German engineers come up in support. The Soviets deploy their armoured car. The German mororcyclists scatter, while the German M42 anti-tank gun deploys. Soviet MGA2 prepare to defend the road. German machinegun fire takes its toll as a truck burns. The Germans begin to outflank the position.  The BA10 armoured car is immobilised and is a sitting duck for the German anti-tank gun and tank. End game.  The Germans advance as the Soviets retreat, abandoning thier burning armoured car.  The Germans lost two motorbike combinations and so the reconnaissance platoon must retreat too.

1941 Eastern Front Campaign - Battle 8 - Back to Eastern Gordinische

After rebuilding their forces the Germans tried again for Eastern Gordinische.  Two infantry platoons took on two Soviet platoons. This was the battlefield, a collection of terrain from three players. The Germans attacked the Soviets, who started deployed 12" in. The Germans pick their way through the rubble. The Germans headed for the high-rise buildings in front of them. The Soviets held back, using whatever cover they could find. There were so many Soviets that not all of them could deploy properly. Fighting errupted around the bridge. Close range fire-fights errupted The Germans used their superior numbers to find weak spots The Germans broke into the factory. But the Soviets counter-attacked and won the factory fight. This German platoon lost a single man, and decisevly won its fight. In the end the Soviets retreated to Western Gordinische for their final stand.
