1941 Eastern Front Campaign - Battle 3

1941 Eastern Front Campaign - Battle 3

Following the repairs to the railway lines into Gordinische the Soviets had built up their forces.  This attack was by a Soviet infantry platoon, fresh off the train, supported by a Soviet tank platoon.  The Germans were the previous victors of Battle 2.  From Turn 4 onwards a German infantry platoon arrived from reserve.

The Germans are in leagure whilst the Soviets attack.

Three T-34s, two with five tank riders each, and the infantry march on.

All inexperienced, the Soviets have three squads, a light anti-tank gun and an MMG.

The Germans have three Panzer III E, a light anti-tank gun and a small infantry squad.

First blood to the Germans as a T34 burns.

The Soviet infantry advance whilst the tanks skirmish.

German infantry arrive in support.

A Panzer III burns, but the German infantry counter-attack.  Soviets try and take out a Panzer by infantry asault whilst the Germans unload thier 88mm AA gun.

The infantry fights are brutal.

Another Panzer III E burns.  The German tanks are inferior to the T34s.

The Soviets retreat but have killed all three German tanks.  Although this is a loss, the German losses mean Gordinische cannot be surrounded.
